NAR Thanks Senator Ossoff for the Introduction of the Access to Homeownership Act

Issue Date: September 10, 2024

NAR submitted a letter to Senator Jon Ossoff thanking him for introducing the Access to Homeownership Act, which helps renters purchase homes by including their positive rental payment history in reports to credit bureaus, helping boost credit ratings.

The Access to Homeownership Act would require landlords that receive financing through the Federal government, including through Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, for multifamily properties like apartment buildings to offer tenants the ability to have their on-time rental payments reported to credit bureaus.

NAR has long-supported efforts to include positive payment histories in credit scoring models, allowing those without traditional lines of credit to establish credit scores.
