NAR Letter to Representatives Calvert and McCollum Regarding FY18 Appropriations and 3D Elevation Program (3DEP)

Issue Date: May 24, 2017

On May 24, 2017 NAR sent a letter to the Chair and Ranking Member of the House Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Subcommittee and cc’ing the entire Subcommittee. NAR asked House appropriators for their support for full funding of the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP).  This program provides high-resolution ground elevation data, which is needed for accurate flood mapping.  The North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program, which uses this data, has shown how it can more accurately map the 100-year floodplain where flood insurance is required.  3DEP would also enable FEMA to provide building specific maps so property owners would not have to buy a $500-$1500 elevation certificate to dispute a lender flood zone determination and amend the flood map.
