Coalition Letter to Senate Leadership Opposing Gfee Funding of the Extension of Transportation Programs

Issue Date: July 21, 2015

On July 21, 2015 as part of an industry coalition, NAR sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. The letter requested the Senate Leaders' opposition of the utilization of Fannie Mae's and Freddie Mac's credit risk guarantee fees (g-fees) as a source of funding for the extension of transportation programs. Using g-fees as a funding mechanism for the reauthoriztion of highway programs shifts the burden to homeowners and the housing sector in a manner that prevents Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from effectively managing their risk.
